Update: Northbound Lanes on the Claremont Escarpment Access Closed For Up To 8 Weeks
HAMILTON, ON – December 2, 2016 – To ensure public safety the down bound (northbound) lanes of the Claremont Access will remain closed as the City completes the necessary remedial work. The remedial work is projected to take up to eight weeks to complete.
Planned Sherman Access Lane Restrictions Postponed
The City is collaborating with escarpment slope experts to rehabilitate the area in order to ensure the Claremont Access is safe for motorists today and for the future. Remedial work, which includes stabilizing the bin walls and the exposed rock face, is slated to begin immediately and may take up to eight weeks to complete.
The City continues to monitor traffic movement on all affected roadways and make adjustments to help alleviate the traffic inconveniences of this closure.
These changes include postponing the scheduled repair work on the west leg of the Sherman Access, adjusting traffic signals, and conversion of a Claremont Access up bound (southbound) lane in order to provide a down bound (northbound) option for traffic over the longer term.
In preparation for Claremont Access lane conversion, crews will begin work over the next week which includes removing the centre concrete barrier wall at the lower end of the access, street light relocation, and paving. Due to unrelated scheduled work on the Jolley Cut Bridge this option will not be available until December 14.
The northbound (down bound) lanes remain closed from Upper James at Inverness Avenue through to Victoria Ave. The City will continue to provide updates and information on traffic adjustments.
The City thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation as we work to ensure continued public safety along the escarpment roadways.
