World Toilet Day
World Toilet Day is held November 19 each year, and was created by the United Nations to bring worldwide sanitation issues to light. Approximately 2.4 billion people worldwide lack access to basic sanitation like a toilet or latrine. In places without toilets where wastewater isn’t safely managed, drinking water is easily contaminated leading to illness, malnutrition and even death. Leading up to World Toilet Day each year, Hamilton Water raises awareness of these issues by providing classroom resources so that students across Hamilton can learn about the importance of clean water and sanitation.

Drinking Water Poster Contest
Bring awareness to your school’s hydration stations during the school year with colourful posters featuring designs created by your students. Hamilton Water provides the template and your students provide the designs that promote the benefits of drinking tap water and using reusable bottles.
This poster contest can be run at any time during the school year and provides a great opportunity for eco-teams or individual students to develop skills and confidence gained by running a school-wide program.
This program can be run by your eco-team, staff or students and everyone in your school can participate! Each student in your school can create a poster design related to drinking water (or a water topic of your choice). Your school then picks up to 3 winners and Hamilton Water will have those designs professionally printed and mounted for you to hang above drinking fountains in your school.

Taps N’ Drains is a life-sized boardgame that is a blast to play as a class. Students start in Lake Ontario and must race through pipes to their taps and then back to Hamilton Harbour. Players learn about local water issues along the way such as water treatment, pollution prevention and water conservation.
