Head Lice
What are head lice?

- Head lice are common in pre-school and school-aged children.
- Hygiene and cleanliness have nothing to do with getting lice. Anyone can get them, and they do not spread disease.
- Head lice are tiny, flat, wingless insects that live on the scalp, crawl quickly, and lay eggs. They do not jump or fly or live on pets.
- Lice lay very small eggs called nits. Nits stick firmly to the hair near the scalp and do not fall off easily.
- After eggs hatch, the empty shells can stay on the hair.
