Unionized employees
Wages and pay ranges for unionized positions are established through collective bargaining between the City of Hamilton and bargaining agents representing unionized workers.
For pay information concerning union positions, consult your collective agreement or union office. Employees can also view their current rate of pay by logging on to My HR Info.
Non-unionized employees
The non-union salary plan consists of 15 pay bands, or salary ranges. The plan is reviewed annually to ensure Hamilton’s competitiveness in relation to 11 other municipalities that are similar in size and structure to the City of Hamilton. Those municipalities are Brampton, Brantford, Burlington, Guelph, Halton, London, Mississauga, Niagara Region, Oakville, Peel, Waterloo Region.

How and when employees are paid
Salaried employees are paid for standard hours worked in a two-week period with a Friday pay date. Any additional hours such as shift or overtime are paid for a two-week period one week after the pay period. Docking for absences is also processed for a two week period one week after the pay period.
Wage employees are paid at least one week after the pay period ends with a Friday pay date.

- OMERS pension plan (for those that are enrolled in the pension plan)
- Canadian income tax (T4)
- Canada Pension Plan (CPP)
- Employment Insurance (EI)
