About the Hamilton Fire Department

As approved at City Council on June 12, 2019 this Plan is the road map for the future of our Department as we continue to proudly serve the residents of the City of Hamilton.

Every five (5) years fire departments in Ontario are required by the Ontario Fire Marshal to complete a Community Risk Assessment. Please review the Hamilton Fire Department's 2023 Community Risk Assessment (link to doc attached). This Community Risk Assessment Report is a critical and foundational tool to help keep communities safe and is used to comprehensively assess, document, and identify current and future fire risk based on a range of features and profiles. With the data and summary complete, in 2025 the Hamilton Fire Department will utilize the trends and data to inform decisions that help maintain and/or improve community fire safety. 

Water Tanker Shuttle Service Accreditation

The Hamilton Fire Department has successfully completed the Fire Department Water Tanker Shuttle Service Accreditation for all residential and commercial properties in the rural areas of the city.

Fire insurance rate reduction for rural property owners

With these ratings, both residential - Recognition for Fire Insurance Grading certificate(PDF, 158.09 KB) and commercial Recognition for Fire Insurance grading Accreditation(PDF, 185.5 KB) property owners should be eligible (depending on their individual insurance companies) for a rate reduction in the fire portion of their insurance. Property owners should contact their insurance agents for details regarding their specific policy.
