Temporary Closure of Powell Park Community Garden
The Powell Park Community Garden has been temporarily closed.
Community gardens are plots of City-owned land used by community to sustainably grow food as well as native and ornamental plants. Community gardens provide Hamiltonians with an opportunity to engage in a healthy recreational activity while growing food, benefiting from social interaction by meeting neighbours, building community ties and beautifying public open space. Collectives of residents or nonprofit agencies manage each community gardens. The City of Hamilton supports community gardens by providing community with space in parks and other City-owned land.
Find or join a community garden
- Hamilton Community Garden Directory
- Contact the coordinator of the community garden you are interested in to learn more about how to participate.
- Many gardens currently have waitlists for plots or participation. These waitlists are managed by each Garden Collective (group of residents or nonprofit running the garden), not by the City of Hamilton nor by the Hamilton Community Garden Network program coordinator (Neighbour to Neighbour staff).
Community gardens in Hamilton
The ways that residents garden together in community food gardens in Hamilton varies.
- Many community gardens are located in City of Hamilton Parks, but you will also see them on land belonging to CityHousing Hamilton and other social and supportive housing providers, the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, faith groups, and non-profits organizations.
