Pay your fare with debit or credit
Children can explore the city for free with HPL and HSR! Children ages 6-12 travel free on HSR with a valid PRESTO card. Visit any @HPL branch and show them your library card to get a free kids PRESTO card.
Taking transit in Hamilton just got easier! No need to look for exact cash/change. Now you can pay your HSR fare and transfer between buses with a tap of your debit or credit card, including the card on your phone or watch.
Debit and credit payments are available on HSR and ATS/DARTS.
When paying with debit or credit, PRESTO will charge the full cash fare($3.50) to your card. PRESTO cards and PRESTO E-Tickets are still the best payment options for most regular customers, providing the lowest fare options and fare concessions for child, youth and senior categories.
Visa, Mastercard and American Express are all accepted on HSR and ATS/DARTS.
Note: American Express is not accepted as a payment option for any other services at the City of Hamilton, including in-person service centres.
Free two-hour transfers are provided between HSR buses and to Burlington Transit and three hour transfers on GO Transit. The same card, phone or watch must be tapped to transfer.
Remember to take your card out of your wallet when you pay. You may incur charges to a different card if you don't ensure the card (or payment method) you're paying with is separated from other payment cards. Use the same card to transfer between buses too.
Customers can review their contactless trip history and fare payments through the PRESTO mobile app and through the PRESTO website, after they register their credit card.
Each person boarding the bus must use their own debit or credit card. If you’re travelling as a group or family, use the PRESTO E-Tickers app instead.
