Low water pressure can be temporary or ongoing issue, and can be caused by several issues.
Temporary low pressure
There are a number of things that can cause temporary low water pressure:
- a water main break
- a fire hydrant could be in use
- a heavy demand on water use, such as lawn watering
Ongoing low pressure
There are a number of things that can cause permanent low water pressure:
- your home could be located on a hill or far from the nearest pumping station
- the water service line that comes into your home could be undersized
- the pipe may have a lot of scale in it blocking the water flow
How to report low water pressure
If you are experiencing ongoing low water pressure, call 905-546-2489. When you report a low pressure problem, you need to answer the following:
- Is this an ongoing problem or has it suddenly happened?
- Are there any contractors doing repairs in your area?
- Is the water flow problem throughout the whole house or just one faucet?
- Have you checked the water control valve in the basement? Do you see or hear water running?
Schedule a Check Size and Type Inspection
A Check Size and Type Inspection helps you determine the size of the pipe that is used to provide your water service. If you suspect that you have undersized water service pipe, call the City of Hamilton at 905-546-2489 and arrange to have a Check Size and Type Inspection of your water service.
