Residential and Commercial Inspections
Upon request, the Hamilton Fire Department will conduct a paid inspection of residential and non-residential (commercial) buildings.

Important Information:
If you request an inspection and you are not the property owner, you will need to provide a written letter signed by the owner to Fire Prevention. If you need to submit written authorization it can be emailed to [email protected].
The online request system will only process one request at a time. If you have multiple requests, you may prefer to contact Fire Prevention via telephone.
Student Housing, Bed & Breakfast or Lodging House Inspection
Fee $707.65 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2025
Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of student housing, a bed and breakfast, or lodging house location.
Residential Building Inspection – 1 Dwelling
Fee $185.75 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2025
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of a residential building with 1 dwelling. Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.
Residential Building Inspection – 2 Dwellings
Fee $707.65 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2025
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of a residential building with 2 dwelling. Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.
Residential Building Inspection – Less than 4 Stories and More Than 2 Dwelling units
Fee $1,059.60 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2025
Description: Fire Prevention Inspection of a residential building with less than 4 stories and more than 2 dwelling units. Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.
Residential Building Inspection – 4 to 6 Stories
Fee $1,329.90 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2025
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of a residential building with 4-6 stories. Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.
Residential Building Inspection – 7 to 11 Stories
Fee $1,708.60 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2025
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of a residential building with 7-11 stories. Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.
Residential Building Inspection – 12 to 18 Stories
Fee $2,499.40 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2025
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of a residential building with 12-18 stories. Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.

Description: Fire Prevention inspection of a non-residential building that is less than 5 stories (ie. 4 stories or less) and less than 3,000 sq. ft per floor. Fees include the cost of a final compliance letter.
