Heritage Week
Heritage Week in Hamilton 2024 is February 19 to 25. The Hamilton Wentworth Heritage Association and the Tourism and Culture Division of the City of Hamilton invite residents to a Heritage Day celebration and social in The Coach House at Dundurn. See below for that and other Heritage Week events for the whole family.

Family Day: Unplugged!
February 17 to 19, 2024
Do away with screens, blinking lights, and dead batteries and visit the Museum of Steam & Technology’s Unplugged Family Day Activity Centre! Drop-in and try some low-tech games and activities – including nostalgic board games, train puzzles, and matching games. Try your hand at origami, build a house of cards, and make your own puppet to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Hamilton Children’s Museum and Fieldcote are teaming up to encourage family and friends to enjoy each other and the outdoors this Family Day during Winterfest. Visitors will make bird feeders to place in backyards and on balconies to help our feathered friends. We also encourage participation in the Great Backyard Bird Count at https://www.birdcount.org/.

Join us for a family-friendly tour of Whitehern featuring entertainment from the 19th and early-20th centuries. Experience interactive elements with music, radio dramas, children’s toys and family photo opportunities. Don’t miss a stop by The Stable for free popcorn and film clips from the 1930s. The first 25 families to arrive will receive and entertainment-themed Grab & Go Kit containing interesting history, crafts and activities.

The Hamilton Children’s Museum will be popping up at the Ancaster Old Town Hall on Family Day. Families are invited to build and play with the Big Blue Blocks, designed to inspire children to create their own inventions, environments and activities.

Explore a fascinating piece of Hamilton history at Dundurn National Historic Site. On a guided tour of over 40 rooms in Dundurn Castle, discover what it was like to live and play above stairs and work and live below stairs. Your admission to Dundurn Castle includes admission to The Hamilton Military Museum - visit this neighbouring Museum for a self-guided experience with dress-up and engaging activities, while exploring the historical figures who lived in Hamilton during the War of 1812 and First World War.
Family Day Model Train Show

Join the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers and the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology for a special display of model trains in the 1913 Electric Pumphouse building. Visitors of all ages are invited to see the miniature trains and speak with club members to learn about this fascinating hobby. Train-themed crafts and activities will also be provided by the museum. Entrance to the Train Show is free and drop-in, no tickets required. If you also plan to tour the museum on Family Day, make sure to book a ticket in advance as space is limited and tours fill up quickly!
Little Wigglers – Super Scientists! Light and Shadow
