Council of the City of Hamilton, pursuant to the Assessment Act, as amended by the Continued Protection for Property Taxpayers Act, 2000, S.O. 2000, c.25, has the right to adopt optional property classes for the year 2006.
Tax ratios determine the relative amount of taxation to be borne by each property class.
To levy on the whole rateable property according to the last returned assessment roll for the current year, the tax rates required for the City and Public and Separate school purposes.
To levy a special charge upon the rateable properties in the Business Improvement Areas that are in a prescribed business property class sufficient to raise the amount required for the purposes of the Boards of Management of the Business Improvement Areas.
The City of Hamilton for 2006 chooses to increase the maximum assessment related tax increases allowed on the commercial, industrial and multi-residential tax classes.
To establish a percentage by which tax decreases shall be limited in respect of properties in any property class.
Establishes part-lot control on land within registered plans of a subdivision.
To impose fees or charges on any class of persons for various services or activities and for use of its property.
