Bus News Fall 2025
Starting Sunday, August 31, 2025, we’re making it easier to get where you need to go — with more buses, more often. These changes will make a real difference for communities across Hamilton.

Bus Stop Changes
Effective August 31, 2025, these bus stop changes will be in effect. Watch for signs posted at the affected stops.
Route 33 Sanatorium
Changes from Sanatorium Road to Scenic Drive, in both directions.

Route 43 Stone Church
Stop on Stone Church at Chesley is moving to the Southwest Corner

Due to street light fixture replacement at the Hamilton GO Centre Terminal, Routes 1 King & 2 Barton will be on detour.
The detour will remain in place during these periods due to limited space for safe boarding at the terminal while work is underway.
Detour Details:
Route 1 King & 2 Barton
- WESTBOUND (To GO Station) – From James Street and the entrance to the Hamilton GO Centre, continue south on James Street, turn left on Augusta Street to Temporary End-of-Line on Augusta Street east of James Street.
- EASTBOUND (From GO Station) – From Temporary End-of-Line on Augusta Street east of James Street, continue east on Augusta Street, turn left on John Street, and resume regular eastbound routing on John Street north of the Hamilton GO Station
Stop Closures and Temporary Stop Locations
- October 6 (Evening) – Work will affect Routes 1 King & 2 Barton bus stops at the easterly end of the GO Station.
- October 7 (Evening) – Work will shift to the westerly end, affecting Routes 3 Cannon & 51 University bus stops.
- During this time, Routes 3 Cannon & 51 University buses will relocate to the easterly end of the GO Station and recover at the Routes 1 King & 2 Barton bus stops until work is completed.
As a result of the Art Crawl event, Routes 2 Barton, 3 Cannon, 4 Bayfront, 20 A Line, 99 Waterfront will be on detour due to road closures on James Street, from York Boulevard/Wilson Street to Murray Street.

- Westbound – From Barton St. at John St.; left on John St., right on Rebecca St., left on James St. and resume regular routing on James St. south of Rebecca St.
Route 3 Cannon
- Westbound – From Cannon St. at John St.; left on John St., right on Rebecca St., left on James St. and resume regular routing on James St. south of Rebecca St.
Route 4 Bayfront
- Eastbound – From MacNab St. at Murray St.; continue north on MacNab St., right on Strachan St., left on James St. and resume regular routing on James St. north of Strachan St.
- Westbound – From James St. at Strachan St.; left on Strachan St., right on John St., right on Rebecca St., left on James St. and resume regular routing on James St. south of Rebecca St.
Route 20 A Line
- Northbound – From James St. at Main St.; right on Main St., left on John St., left on Strachan St., right on James St. and resume regular routing on James St. north of Strachan St.
- Southbound – From James St. at Strachan St.; left on Strachan St., right on John St., right on Rebecca St., left on James St. and resume regular routing on James St. south of Rebecca St.
Route 99 Waterfront
- Southbound - From Strachan St. at James St.; continue east on Strachan St., right on John St., right on Rebecca St., left on James St. and resume regular routing on James St. south of Rebecca St.

Due to intermittent traffic stoppages on Barton Street between Catharine Street and John Street, Route 2 Barton may experience brief delays.
Details:
Traffic may be temporarily stopped for 1–3 minutes at a time during the morning hours.
Route 3 - Cannon
- Eastbound - From Wilson St and Victoria Avenue, Left on Victoria Avenue, Right on Barton Street, Right on Birch Avenue, Left on Wilson Street and resume regular eastbound routing on Wilson Street east of Birch Avenue.
- Westbound - No Detour

Temporary Stop: Wilson at Victoria
Due to construction, Route 3 Cannon will be on detour, Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 2 pm until further notice.
Detour Details:
EASTBOUND (To Reid and Dunsmure) – From Wilson Street and Victoria Avenue, turning left on Victoria Avenue, turning right on Barton Street, turning right on Birch Avenue, turning left on Wilson Street and resume regular eastbound routing on Wilson Street east of Birch Avenue.
WESTBOUND (To Downtown) – No detour required.

- Westbound to Downtown – No detour required.
Due to intermittent traffic stoppages on MacNab Street between York Boulevard and Cannon Street, Route 4 Bayfront may experience brief delays.
Details:
Traffic may be temporarily stopped for 1–3 minutes at a time throughout the day.
Due to construction, Route 5A Delaware & 51 University will be on detour, Monday, September 29, 2025, from 9 am to approximately 3 pm.

Out of Service Stop - Whitney Avenue at Ewen Road
Impacted Areas:
- Longwood Rd. from Franklin Ave. to Princess Point Loop
- Macklin St. from Princess Point Loop to Dufferin St.
Route 18 Waterdown Mountaineer will detour as it travels to and from the Flamborough South Centre, August 31 until further notice.
Westbound to Walmart (End-of-Line): When travelling westbound to Walmart, the bus will continue on Clappison Avenue, turning right on Dundas Street East, left on Leavitt Boulevard, left into Flamborough South Centre, right on the first internal road, proceed around Staples, and stop at stop #1879 at Walmart.
Eastbound to Aldershot GO: From stop #1879 at Walmart, the bus will turn left at from the stop, right on the first internal road, left on the next internal road, right on Leavitt Boulevard, right on Dundas Street East, and left on Clappison Avenue where it will continue on regular route.
Transit staff and property manager are working on an access agreement to allow HSR bus travel through the lot.
Due to construction Route 41 Mohawk trips will detour via Ottawa Street only, the detour will be as follows:
Detour Details:
- NORTHBOUND TO INDUSTRIAL DRIVE - From Ottawa Street and Beach Road, Right on Beach Road and continue on Dofasco Avenue, Left on Kenilworth Avenue, Left on Burlington Street and continue on Industrial Drive and resume regular routing on Industrial Drive west of Ottawa Street.
- SOUTHBOUND TO THE MEADOWLANDS – No detour required.
