Firefighters respond to two overnight fires
Hamilton, ON – September 30, 2017 – The Hamilton Fire Department responded to two working fires overnight. At approximately 10:54 pm fire crews responded to a report of a fire at an industrial occupancy Travale Tire & Service located at 340 Wentworth Street North. Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke and fire conditions and as a result the alarm was then upgraded to a multiple alarm bringing additional fire crews to the scene.
This fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters upon their arrival but required extensive overhaul. There were no reported injuries from the fire. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a malfunctioning heater and the estimated dollar loss at this fire was $100,000.
At approximately 12:38 am firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle fire in an alleyway at 110 Birge Street. Upon arrival firefighters encountered a well-involved fire in a car parked in the alley which had extended into a one storey house at 110 Birge Street. The lone occupant of the home had exited the home prior to the arrival of fire crews who quickly extinguished the car fire and the fire which had extended into the attic space of the home. The estimated dollar loss at this fire was $150,000 and the occupant has made alternate arrangements for a place to stay. There were no reported injuries at this fire and an investigator from the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to assist with the investigation of this fire.
