Early morning house fire sends one person to Hospital
HAMILTON, ON – January 18, 2016 – The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in a south unit of three town/row houses at 111 Queen Street South, Hamilton at 1:04 am this morning. Upon arrival, firefighters reported a well involved fire with smoke and flames venting from the second floor of the south home and a rescue required of an adult male on the second floor. Fire crews extended a ladder to a second floor window on the south side of the home and successfully rescued the adult male who was transported to Hospital.
Firefighters worked quickly and were able to effect a successful knockdown and extinguishment of the fire on second floor and loft with no fire spread to the adjacent units.
Damage to the south unit which was occupied as a duplex is estimated at $250,000 in total and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. An investigator from the Fire Marshal’s Office has been requested to assist in determining the cause of this fire. The first floor tenants are being assisted by the Red Cross for alternate living arrangements.
