Invitation to attend the Auchmar Estate Operations Plan Public Meeting
Hamilton, ON – January 22, 2016 – The public is invited to participate in a discussion of the draft Auchmar Operations Plan on Thursday, January 28 at the Tourism Hamilton Visitor Centre.
The Auchmar Estate is a heritage property owned by the City of Hamilton located on the northeast corner of Fennel Ave and West 5th Street. The property was originally developed as the family home of Isaac Buchanan, a prominent politician and businessman. Since then, Auchmar has been at the centre of historical events in Hamilton for more than 160 years, whether as the home of other prominent citizens, the site of Emancipation Day events, as an RCAF hospital in World War II or as a religious retreat.
Auchmar is the only city-owned heritage building on Hamilton Mountain and many individuals and heritage groups have been active in efforts to find a viable future for the house, outbuildings and property. In 2012, City Council approved an adaptive re-use concept which included a mix of public, community and private programs. The draft Operations Plan, which analyzes those functions, in detail, is now ready for public comment.
