Warmer temperatures on the way: Residents are asked to clear sidewalks
HAMILTON, ON - With current weather forecasts predicting milder temperatures across the City starting today, residents are encouraged to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties. The melting ice and snow during the daytime hours, and the rapid drop in overnight temperatures may result in slushy and icy conditions.
The City of Hamilton’s Snow and Ice By-law No. 03-296 requires property owners and/or occupants to clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property and from roofs that overhang the City sidewalk within 24 hours after the end of a snow event. Failure to remove and clear snow and ice may result in a notice to comply and costly penalties.
Residents can report a sidewalk that has not been cleared, or a roadway or a bike lane that needs attention from a plow or a salter by contacting the Customer Contact Centre Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm by phone at 905-546-CITY(2489), or via email at [email protected].
