More help on the way after two weeks of rain
HAMILTON, ON - May 12, 2017 - From April 20 to May 6, Hamilton was hit hard by rainstorms causing flooding throughout the area. Many owners experienced flooded basements and water damage over 15 days. The City of Hamilton has extended a recent grant program that initially only provided grants for the rainstorm that happened on April 20. This now has been extended for all rain storms, for all residents, that may have incurred damage from April 20 to May 6.
"Resulting from the significant rainfall over the last two weeks, many residents experienced property damage to their homes. I'm pleased to note the coverage extension for our compassionate grant program to assist with clean up and repairs and thank residents for their patience."
Fred Eisenberger, Mayor, City of Hamilton
The City of Hamilton has in place the Residential Municipal Disaster Relief Assistance Program (RMDRAP). It’s meant to help in cases just like this. If the basement in your residential property was flooded, or there’s other water damage, as a direct result of the storms, you may be eligible for some financial assistance. This is through a compassionate grant program available from the City of Hamilton.
