Seasonal Schedules, Holidays and Shuttles
Holiday Service
- Christmas Day Monday, December 25, 2023, Holiday level of service ending at 9 pm
- Boxing Day Tuesday, December 26, 2023, Holiday level of service ending at 9 pm
- Saturday level of service on routes 1, 2, 21, 25, 26, 41 and 43. Sunday level of service on all other routes. NEW in 2023: routes 10 & 20 will also operate.
- New Year’s Eve - Sunday, December 31, 2023, HSR Service is free after 6 pm and will be operating a Sunday level of service.
- Please Note: only routes that operate past 10:00 PM have been extended, all other routes will continue to operate at regular Sunday level of service. Last downtown trips leaving Frank A. Cooke Terminal will be at 12:30 AM and 1:00 AM on most routes. NEW in 2023: routes 10 & 20 will also operate.
- New Year’s Day - Monday, January 1, 2024, operating a Sunday level of service ending at 10 pm.
- Family Day - Monday, February 19, 2024, operating a Sunday level of service ending at 10 pm.
- Good Friday - Friday, March 29, 2024, operating a Sunday level of service ending at 10 pm.
- Easter Monday - Monday, April 1, 2024, operating a regular weekday service.
Route Changes
The winter schedule will operate beginning Sunday, December 31, 2023, up to and including Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Changes for the winter 2024 schedule include:
- 4 - Bayfront (Weekdays)
Minor eastbound schedule changes to improve schedule reliability. - 5 - Delaware (Saturdays & Sundays)
Minor schedule changes that includes an additional trip from downtown. - 5 - Delaware (Sundays)
Minor schedule changes to trips departing King at James and Main at MacNab in the evening to improve schedule reliability and improve transfer connections. - 33 - Sanatorium (All Services)
Minor schedule changes to improve schedule reliability. - 41 - Mohawk (Saturdays)
Minor schedule changes that includes shifting the first trip from Industrial at Depew to provide an earlier arrival time at Meadowlands Terminal and improve schedule reliability.
- 55/55A - Stoney Creek Central (Weekdays)
Minor schedule changes to improve service reliability that include:- The first eastbound trip was shifted later to improve the connection with route 1 at Eastgate Square.
- An early morning westbound half-trip was added from Jones at Highway 8 to connect with the first route 10 Eastgate Square departure.
- 55/55A - Stoney Creek Central (Saturdays)
Minor schedule changes to improve service reliability that include an early morning westbound half-trip added from Jones at Highway 8 to connect with route 1 at Eastgate Square. - 51 - University (Weekdays & Saturdays)
Route will continue regular Weekday and Saturday service.
Fare Assist
If you’re a Hamilton resident who receives Ontario Works, the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) or have a household income at or below the Low Income Measure (LIM), you and your family may be eligible for a 30% discount on current single-ride PRESTO fares for one year following application approval.
Key Features of the Fare Assist Program
- Hamilton Residents with total household incomes at or below the Stats Canada Low-Income Measure (LIM) can apply.
- 30% discount on current single-ride PRESTO fares for one year following application approval.
- The discount does not apply to monthly or annual passes.
- The discount applies to both conventional and specialized transit, including trips taken on DARTS vehicles.
- Applicants can re-apply each year.
- Funds can be loaded to a PRESTO Card as-needed, and riders will not be charged an additional fare after 11 paid PRESTO trips in the same week (Monday 12:01 AM to Sunday 11:59PM).
- The discount applies to all eligible members of the household, including a spouse and children ages 13-17.
- Children 12-and-under ride free with PRESTO.

Children (6-12) Travel FREE with PRESTO
Visit a Hamilton Public Library (HPL) branch to get your child’s free library card and PRESTO card. Only one PRESTO card per child’s library card. While quantities last. Your child’s free PRESTO card from HPL is valid for free travel on HSR, GO and Burlington Transit.
Pay Your Fare with Credit and Debit
Taking transit in Hamilton just got easier!
No need to look for exact change - now you can pay your HSR fare and transfer between buses with a tap of your credit or debit card, including the card on your phone or watch. Contactless payment using credit or debit will charge the full cash fare and can only be used to pay for single riders.
If you’re travelling as a group or family and have a credit card, use the PRESTO E-Tickets app instead.
