Celebrate George Hamilton Day with a Free Concert Honouring Lincoln Alexander

HAMILTON, ON - July 25, 2017 - Lincoln Alexander will be honoured as this year’s ‘Famous Hamiltonian’ with a free concert on George Hamilton Day, taking place on Monday, August 7, from 7 to 9 pm at The Hamilton Spectator Auditorium.

• Music performances will include the Jude Johnson Quartet, the Cottonwood Brass, the Stewart Memorial Church Choir and more.
• Music choices will include Lincoln Alexander’s favorite songs and dance performances by Pell Mell.
• Seating is limited and tickets are necessary for entry to the concert.
• Tickets can be picked up at The Hamilton Spectator, 44 Frid Street, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm Limit of 4 tickets per person.
• Parking is available on site.
• Venue is fully accessible.

In 2010, City Council declared that the August Civic Holiday be named George Hamilton Day. Each year on George Hamilton Day the City celebrates the contribution of a notable local historical figure as voted by the citizens of Hamilton. This year, the people of our city chose Lincoln Alexander as the Famous Hamiltonian of 2017.

Lincoln MacCauley Alexander was a lawyer, parliamentarian, and public servant. Alexander was the first Black Canadian Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. The Legislative Assembly of Ontario described Alexander as “an example of service, determination and humility. Always fighting for equal rights for all races in our society, and doing so without malice, he changed attitudes and contributed greatly to the inclusiveness and tolerance of Canada today.”
