City secures Federal funding for accessibility improvements to Veevers Estate
HAMILTON, ON - The City of Hamilton’s Veevers Estate will receive vital accessibility upgrades thanks to a $100,000 federal investment from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
The federal investment will enable a new exterior ramp, the installation of two accessible doors and the construction of an accessible washroom to ensure the building can be used by all visitors. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund. Work is expected to be completed by 2024.
Veevers Estate is a City-owned heritage property in East Hamilton currently home to Green Venture’s EcoHouse, a Hamilton-based not-for-profit that has been providing environmental education and promoting sustainable living since 1994.
By improving accessibility at EcoHouse, Green Venture hopes to expand their reach, empower more individuals to implement greener practices in their homes and communities, and take action on climate change.
Quick Facts
- The City of Hamilton owns Veevers Estate and holds a rental agreement with Green Venture, currently in place until January 2025.
- EcoHouse is the main office used to administer Green Venture programming, and the site offers various green initiatives and events.
City spaces should be accessible to all. Thanks to this federal investment, we’re enhancing access at Veevers Estate so that Green Venture can empower more Hamiltonians to implement climate friendly practices in their own homes.
