The McQuesten Urban Farm Community Build Event
HAMILTON, ON – May 31, 2016 – Members of the media are invited to join McQuesten residents and youth, as well as City staff and community partners, as they build a portion of the urban farm. There will be an unveiling of Sir Winston Churchill student projects that include student built information kiosks, bike racks and habitat structures for pollinator insects. An official presentation recognizing the student projects will take place at 2 pm with welcome from Ward 4 Councillor Sam Merulla.
Planting activities on-site include laying of sod throughout the outdoor classroom, mulching of trees, shrubs and pathways, and planting of native shrubs and perennials. Farming activities will also be taking place including planting, weeding and harvesting of crops in the farm fields.
