Spring Clean-Up Notice
As the warmer weather approaches, Hamilton Municipal Cemeteries will be conducting our annual Spring Clean-up to ensure that our cemeteries remain a respectful and well-maintained space for visitors.
During this time, seasonal decorations, artificial flowers, wreaths, and any unauthorized items will be removed to facilitate grounds maintenance. Families are encouraged to retrieve any personal items they wish to keep before April 1.
Please ensure that any and all items that you wish to keep in memory are brought home with you before April 1st. Following this date, our staff will need to remove these items. We will store large items for 60 days if you with to retrieve them. Once spring cleanup has been completed, you are free to place seasonally appropriate flowers on your loved ones’ lots. Our cemetery by-laws have specific regulations about what is permitted.
Clean-up Schedule begins April 1
Hamilton Municipal Cemeteries Spring clean-up will begin April 1. In addition to cleaning up the individual lots, we do a cemetery-wide cleanup to keep the rest of the cemetery well maintained. This cleanup includes many tasks, including:
- Removing sticks, twigs and branches that have fallen off the trees over the winter
- Removing any leaves that were missed in the fall cleanup
- Leveling and seeding new graves from the late fall, winter and early spring burials
- Pruning trees and shrubs
- Cutting back the ornamental grasses that gave contrast to the snow over winter
- Preparing our garden beds for late Spring planting
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to preserve the beauty and dignity of our cemeteries.
