$500,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant makes a splash for City's Eastwood Park
HAMILTON, ON – In 2022, the City of Hamilton received $500,000 through the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund Capital Stream grant which is delivered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to go toward construction of the Eastwood Park Spray Pad replacement project. Public consultation and final design development wrapped up earlier this summer with construction expected to begin later this fall.
The project will replace the existing spray pad with a new concrete pad and spray features to ensure this well used amenity continues to contribute to the quality of life for residents in the area and support the popular Supie program at Eastwood Park. Following public consultation, the new spray pad will take on an aquatic theme including features such as an upright tree, aquatic creature spray rings, boat wheel, as well as various ground jets and coloured concrete paving.
Construction is expected to occur over the next year in order for the City to open the new spray pad in the summer of 2023.
Grants such as the ones provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation help the city renew aging infrastructure and ensure completion of important projects that create beautiful spaces in our city.
Details regarding an organized public event and ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of the Eastwood Park spray pad will be shared in 2023 as the project nears completion.

Eastwood Park is a 6-hectare (14.82 acre) community park in the North End neighbourhood of central Hamilton’s Ward 2. It is home to softball and soccer fields, a basketball court, a multi-purpose court, an accessible creative play structure, an existing spray pad, and a sun shelter /washroom/ changeroom building.

The total project budget for this project is $878,000 which was approved through the City’s 2022 capital budget. The generous OTF grant reduces the City’s contribution to the project to $378,000.
