City of Hamilton Advising Residents about Door-to-Door Scams
HAMILTON, ON - March 31, 2017 - The City of Hamilton is advising residents to exercise caution if they are approached by unsolicited private contractors or individuals who claim to be affiliated with the City.
A homeowner recently reported being approached by an individual claiming to be associated with the City of Hamilton, and asking to enter the resident’s home to test the water or discuss a water quality issue. This individual was not a City employee.
Homeowners are reminded that all City of Hamilton employees will carry a City of Hamilton identification card, have some form of proper documentation, and wear a City of Hamilton uniform. The City typically only visits a home during an emergency situation such as a water main break that would disrupt water service to the home, or for a previously arranged appointment with a homeowner about a specific issue or complaint.
Property owners who are approached by unsolicited contractors or suspicious individuals claiming to be affiliated with the City of Hamilton should report the incident to Hamilton Police or the City at 905-546-CITY (2489).
