City of Hamilton appoints new Healthy & Safe Communities Department General Manager
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is pleased to announce the appointment of Angela Burden as the General Manager, Healthy & Safe Communities, following a comprehensive recruitment process. Ms Burden will begin her new role on January 10, 2022.
Grounded in the things that make us healthy, the City of Hamilton’s Healthy & Safe Communities Department is a system of services that work together towards ensuring Hamilton is a safe and supportive city where people are active, healthy, and have a high quality of life. The City’s Healthy & Safe Communities department provides a range of health, social and community support services spanning Children’s Services and Neighbourhood Development, Housing Services, Ontario Works, Recreation, Public Health Services, Hamilton Fire Department, and Hamilton Paramedic Services.
Ms Burden joins the City with substantial experience and expertise working in large scale transformation and integrated systems of care. She is known for operationalizing strategic vision in complex environments, and for bringing together diverse stakeholders to deliver on a common goal.
Ms Burden has extensive experience in health care systems and services, including seven years with the Mississauga Halton LHIN/Ontario Health Central Region, most recently as the Vice President (VP) Home and Community Care, Home and Community Support Services. During the pandemic, she led the Ontario Health COVID-19 congregate setting emergency response for Mississauga Halton, working closely with public health, municipalities, hospitals, long term care and provincial ministries to support and stabilize congregate settings in the Mississauga Halton and Central West geographies. During her tenure, she also held the roles of VP Health System Strategy, Integration and Planning, Missisauga Halton LHIN and VP Regional Programs, Mississauga Halton Community Care Access Centre, providing early local leadership for HealthLinks and “Patients’ First” Sub-Region Planning, pre-cursors to the Ontario Health Teams.
Ms Burden also has extensive experience in policy and provision of children’s mental health initiatives both provincially and in New York State.
Ms Burden holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Social Work. Her training also includes Public Sector Leadership at the Rotman School of Management.
