City of Hamilton celebrates Seniors Month in June and beyond
HAMILTON, ON – June is Seniors Month and the City of Hamilton is celebrating by highlighting some unique programs and opportunities available to support, engage and recognize local seniors.
The City of Hamilton’s 2014-2019 Age Friendly Hamilton Plan identifies and addresses the needs and priorities of older adults and seniors, a demographic which is expected to double over the next two decades. To help inform the development of the 2020-2025 Age Friendly Hamilton Plan, consultations with local seniors and community partners are currently underway. Seniors will also have an opportunity to provide feedback through a survey available this coming summer.
In support of one of seven goals identified in the plan – civic engagement – the City is hosting the Senior of the Year Awards Gala on June 24, 2019 to honour seniors who have spent countless hours, and in some cases, decades, volunteering their time and talent to improve the lives of residents in Hamilton.
The City and its partners offer many programs and services to address the health and social needs of older adults and seniors, in support of Hamilton’s vision to be the best place to raise a child and age successfully.
“Seniors are an important part of our community. This month, we celebrate and recognize seniors in Hamilton for their many contributions and achievements. Along with the support of many partner agencies, the City of Hamilton continues to work towards its vision of being the best place to raise a child and age successfully. We are committed to creating an age-friendly community that benefits us all and the City’s award-winning Age-Friendly Plan is a result of key partnerships between the City, the Hamilton Council on Aging and the Seniors Advisory Committee. With this continued spirit of collaboration, Hamilton will remain on its path to being an inclusive, safe and healthy place for seniors to call home.” - Mayor Fred Eisenberger
