City of Hamilton contractor conducting in-home water meter replacements tests positive for COVID-19

HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is advising residents that a contractor conducting in-home water meter replacements has tested positive for COVID-19.

The City was notified of the positive test result late yesterday afternoon. The contractor is currently self-isolating and their local public health unit is completing contact tracing for this case. The City extends its best wishes to the contractor and hopes for a speedy recovery.

The contractor was completing in-home water meter replacements during the week of March 15 to 19, 2021 at homes in Dundas, Greensville and West Hamilton. They visited seven to nine homes per day. Although the contractor was wearing an N-95 mask and other appropriate personal protective equipment while inside residents’ homes, the City is advising residents out of an abundance of caution.

It is important for residents to stay diligent and continue to practice public health management measures in order to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our community. These measures include:

• stay home if you are feeling unwell
• get tested for COVID-19 if you have symptoms or have been in close contact with a confirmed positive case of COVID-19
• limit gatherings to only members of your immediate household
• maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet or 2 meters from others outside of your immediate household
• wear a mask or face covering indoors and outdoors when not able to maintain physical distancing
• wash hands frequently
