City of Hamilton weather related closures and service impacts
With the inclement weather continuing to intensify, and out of concern for resident and employee safety, the City of Hamilton is closing all City administrative offices and facilities as of 1:00 p.m. today.
The City will continue to keep residents updated through our website via tweets through @cityofhamilton. For your quick reference, refer to the webpage capturing these impacts.
The City’s Customer Contact Centre will remain in operation until 4:30pm at which time will transition to after-hours dispatch. With respect to POA, the Courts will continue to operate, however administrative offices and Municipal Services Centres will close.
Additional Public Safety Messaging
As we are seeing high waves, water spray and icy conditions at the Waterfront Trail next to Lake Ontario, the City is encouraging residents to stay away from this area for the duration of the storm as it could be dangerous if residents get too close.
If anyone is concerned about an individual on the street, the Salvation Army can be contacted at 905-527-1444 ext. 0.
Roads
Maintenance crews are continuing to address roadway surface conditions on our Priority 1 and 2 roads. In-house crews and contracted equipment are presently addressing City owned sidewalks, schools and HSR bus stops. Service will continue until the council approved LOS is met. Follow our Plow Tracker to see the progress of our winter maintenance vehicles.
Waste Management
Due to today’s weather conditions, the City of Hamilton is advising residents that waste collection is progressing slower than usual. Residents are asked to be patient as their collection may take place later than normal. At this time front end bin garbage and recycling cart collection at multi-residential buildings is impacted and significant delays may push collection into Wednesday.
In addition to the delay, high winds are occurring and we are asking residents to take steps to secure their recycling material and waste containers.
