Dundas Valley Secondary School Evacuated
HAMILTON, ON - February 21, 2017 - The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of alarm conditions at Dundas Valley Secondary School, located at 310 Governor’s Road, Dundas at approximately 12:17 pm this afternoon.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the school had been evacuated and confirmed that there was a haze inside a first floor student washroom which they were unable to identify. Firefighters were informed that the haze was caused by water coming in contact with a powder in the washroom sink. An upgrade was requested to bring Hamilton Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials team to conduct an investigation of the hazard.
Firefighters from the HazMat team entered the school to retrieve air and product samples which were tested. This test confirmed that there were no hazardous substances present and after the washroom was cleared of the haze the school was allowed to be reoccupied at 1:57 pm.
During the incident evacuated students were sheltered at the neighbouring elementary school, Sir William Osler, until the situation was resolved.
