Fatal house fire sends several people to Hospital
HAMILTON, ON - October 2, 2016 - The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in a 1 ½ storey house at 191 Grenfell Street, Hamilton at 11:20 pm last night. Upon arrival, firefighters reported a well involved fire with heavy smoke showing at the front and flames at the rear of the home. Fire crews immediately went inside to conduct search and rescue operations and initiated fire attack. A multiple alarm was dispatched to the location to bring additional resources to the scene. During their search and rescue operations, firefighters located four persons inside the home.
The home was occupied by five occupants at the time of the fire with three confirmed fatalities, two occupants and one neighbor were transported to hospital.
Damage is estimated at $260,000 the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. An investigator from the Fire Marshal’s Office has been requested to assist in determining the cause of this fire.
