Fatality in early morning Dundas fire
HAMILTON, ON – July 9, 2018 – The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 8 Greening Court, Dundas at approximately 3:45 am. Upon arrival, firefighters found this one-storey home fully involved in the roof area with heavy smoke and flame showing. The alarm was quickly upgraded, which brought additional resources from across the City to the scene. One of the residents was out of the house when crews arrived however, crews were advised that a second person was still in the home. Crews immediately entered the home to initiate aggressive search and rescue operations.
One victim was removed from the home and turned over to Hamilton Paramedics for treatment. This person unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. One additional patient was transported to hospital for treatment from burns. Their condition is currently unknown. No other injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. A pet dog was found by firefighters alive in the basement and was turned over to a neighbour.
An Investigator from the Fire Marshal’s office will be on scene later today to determine the cause of this fire.
Total dollar loss is not yet known, but the home was extensively damaged from the fire.
