Fatality at morning house fire on the mountain
HAMILTON, ON – May 1, 2017 – Hamilton Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 240 Golden Orchard Dr., Hamilton at approximately 10:02 am this morning. While on route, crews were notified that a child was unaccounted for. Upon arrival firefighters confirmed a well involved fire with flames showing from the basement front window of this semi-detached house.
Crews entering the home found a well involved fire in the basement and firefighters immediately began search and rescue operation to locate the missing child. During their search and rescue operations, firefighters located and removed the child who was immediately placed in the care of Hamilton Paramedics and transported directly to Hamilton General Hospital. Unfortunately, the child has succumbed to their injuries.
Firefighters contained the fire to the basement of the one home with no fire spread to the adjoining unit and damage is estimated at approximately $150,000. The Office of the Fire Marshal will be attending due to the fatality and will assist in determining the cause of the fire.
