Fire-fighters respond to three working fires last night in one hour
HAMILTON, ON - February 5, 2017 - The Hamilton Fire Department responded to three working fires on Saturday night beginning at approximately 9:41 pm at 1579 Burlington Street East, Resource Recovery Centre, for alarm conditions in the building. This is a large industrial building, used to store household waste when firefighters investigated they found smoke inside and the call was upgraded to a structure fire. The fire was partially extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system and the remainder was extinguished by fire-fighters. Extensive overhaul was required and crews remained on scene till 2:51 am. There was no dollar loss for this fire as it involved house hold waste and the building was not damaged. The cause of the fire is undetermined and there were no injuries reported.
At the second fire 2574 Kirk Rd Glanbrook, firefighters responded at approximately 10:15 pm to reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival fire-fighters encountered a well involved fire in a 10m x 20m building used as a storage build and work shop. The fire had caused a partial collapse of the building and the nearby home was also in danger of fire extension. Crews immediately commenced with a defensive attack on the fire and protected the nearby house from the fire. Firefighters remained on scene until 2:51 am to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished and completed overhaul. The estimated dollar loss at this fire was $150,000 and there were no reported injuries. The probable cause was an unattended space heater located in the basement.
The third fire shortly after 10:28 pm at 228 Bay St. South, fire-fighters responded to a reported fire in a first floor apartment in this 2 ½ storey house occupied with several apartments. Upon arrival fire-fighters encountered a well involved fire in a first floor apartment. Crews immediately began an aggressive interior attack and were able to quickly knock the fire down. The fire damage was limited to the single apartment and the estimated dollar loss at this fire was $10,000. There were no reported injuries. At this time there is no official cause for the fire and an investigator from the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to assist in the investigation
