GIC endorses the creation of the Housing and Sustainability Investment Roadmap to address Affordable Housing Crisis
Hamilton ON – Today, the General Issues Committee (GIC), a standing committee of City Council took an important step in continuing to put the housing needs of Hamiltonian’s first. The adoption of the Housing Sustainability and Investment Roadmap will help to deliver the best possible outcomes for affordable housing in Hamilton.
By taking a whole of Hamilton approach we can focus on actions designed to strengthen Hamilton’s affordable housing system across four pillars: new construction of affordable housing, maintaining and preservation of existing units, acquisition, and the provision of housing-based supports.
I’m excited about this opportunity and the huge difference it will make for people in Hamilton. The Housing Sustainability and Investment Roadmap is a commitment to a whole of Hamilton approach, working together with community partners to make real progress on housing affordability for Hamiltonians
Mayor Andrea Horwath
The City is currently under a homelessness, opioid addiction, and mental health state of emergency. As we call on our provincial and federal governments to aid municipalities in fighting this crisis, we are also taking a leadership role in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable people in our communities.
