Hamilton citizens are invited to an Open House to celebrate our Urban Forest
HAMILTON, ON – April 13, 2016 - The trees in the City of Hamilton are a valued asset and critical to the long-term well-being of the citizens of Hamilton as they provide environmental, ecological, economic, social and health benefits. Join us on Tuesday April 19th, 2016 from 11 am to 3 pm as we celebrate the value of trees at our Forestry Operations Facility at 1301 Upper Ottawa Street for our Earth Week Open House. Hamilton citizens will receive information about the value of trees, how to care for trees, view equipment demonstrations and more.
- Celebrate Earth week by visiting our facility and learning about the urban forest in our City.
- Three classes of grade 3 students from Gatestone School will be participating in our Trees Hamilton Education Program.
- Mayor Fred Eisenberger will plant a tree to commemorate Earth week and the many benefits of trees and the urban forest at 1 pm.
The urban forest is attracting more attention and renewed awareness from the community. The City of Hamilton also recognizes the significant role that the urban forest plays in providing an improved quality of life. Trees Hamilton staff maintains, cares for and plant our City Trees. In 2016 over 16,000 trees will be planted across our city.

When: Open House Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 from 11 am to 3 pm.
Mayor Eisenberger to plant a ceremonial tree at 1 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
The City of Hamilton Forestry Section cares for hundreds of thousands of trees across the City. Trees Hamilton maintains over 120,000 trees located in parks, open spaces and cemeteries. Trees Hamilton also maintain over 300,000 street trees located within the road allowance of the 6,522 kilometres of city roads.
Trees Hamilton is responsible for:
- Maintaining and removing trees
- Planting street trees
- Responding to storm damage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- Protecting and improving the urban canopy
