Hamilton Public Health Services welcomes young children to receive the COVID-19 vaccine
HAMILTON, ON – As announced yesterday by the Ontario government, it is expanding eligibility of the COVID-19 vaccine starting on Thursday, July 28, 2022 to include young children six months to those under five years of age.
Beginning July 28, 2022 at 8 am, parents and caregivers in Hamilton will be able to book appointments for their young children to receive a COVID-19 vaccine using the City’s booking tool on hamilton.ca/GetYourVaccine.
Hamilton Public Health Services and its healthcare partners are prepared to vaccinate the nearly 27,000 Hamilton residents between six months and four years of age.
Family-friendly COVID-19 vaccination
As part of Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccination program, young children can receive a COVID-19 vaccine that is tailored to their family’s needs, including public health led clinics and participating pharmacies.
For those families who have made the personal choice to get their young children vaccinated, they will be able to find clinic locations and hours of operation as it becomes available starting July 28, 2022 on hamilton.ca/GetYourVaccine.
Consistent with Hamilton Public Health Services’ approach to clinic operations throughout the COVID-19 vaccination rollout, to protect and respect the privacy of community members attending clinics, we request that media not be filming while the clinic is operating.
Children who have been infected with COVID-19 should wait eight weeks between infection and starting or completing their vaccine series. If children are receiving other routine pediatric vaccines, those vaccines can only be administered at least 14 days before or after the COVID-19 vaccine.
Stay up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccination, including the doses recommended for you
Individuals five years of age and over wishing to receive a first, second or third dose can access a COVID-19 vaccine on a walk-in basis.
Information about local COVID-19 vaccine clinic locations, hours of operations, and how to book appointments for a first dose for COVID-19 vaccine for six months to those under five years of age or a fourth dose for eligible populations, is available at hamilton.ca/GetYourVaccine. Additionally, residents are also encouraged to check with local pharmacies that are offering COVID-19 vaccinations
Hamilton Public Health Services’ online vaccine booking system, accessed by visiting hamilton.GetYourVaccine, can accept bookings for eligible residents with an Ontario health card (green photo health card OR red and white) and an email address or cell phone number. Individuals without an Ontario health card, or without an email address or cell phone number can call the Public Health Services COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline: 905-974-9848, option 7. “We know that many parents and caregivers of young children in Hamilton have been anticipating this day for many months, and we are encouraged to see that there’s such a great interest to get Hamilton’s youngest residents vaccinated against COVID-19. While most children in this age group have relatively mild disease, some do experience severe illness, particularly those with underlying health conditions. Along with our community partners, we’re pleased to welcome Hamilton families into settings that are tailored especially to their needs.”
