House fire sends one person to hospital
HAMILTON, ON - May 19, 2017 - Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 120 Park Street North, Hamilton at approximately 1:55 pm this afternoon. Upon arrival firefighters found the six occupants outside of the house and confirmed a well involved fire with heavy smoke showing from the second floor windows in this 3 storey detached house.
Due to the heavy volume of fire encountered and the proximity of the neighbouring homes, additional units were dispatched to the location to assist in firefighting operations. Crews entering the home found a well involved fire on the second floor which had extended upward to the third floor and attic space. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after an aggressive interior attack with some minor fire damage to the neighbouring home on the south side.
Damage to the home is extensive and has been estimated at approximately $300,000. One occupant of the house was transported to hospital with possible smoke inhalation and unfortunately two family pet dogs perished in the fire. The cause of the fire is undetermined and due to the heavy fire and water damage to the home, it is presently uninhabitable. The Red Cross was contacted to the scene to assist occupants with alternate accommodation.
