Immersive Elevated Offerings at Dundurn National Historic Site

HAMILTON, ON - Dundurn National Historic Site invites the public to truly engage in immersive and experiential programming. New historic kitchen workshops and War of 1812 guided tours have been developed to fulfil demand for interactive opportunities.

The MacNab’s Kitchen workshop invites guests to work together to make a traditional recipe in Dundurn Castle’s historic kitchen and is offered on August 25, and September 22 and 23 from 10 am to 12 pm. Following the workshop, participants will be led by costumed staff on a guided tour of the Castle to discover the history of the MacNab family and the servants who lived and worked below stairs to support their affluent lifestyle. The price per person is $30 and pre-registration is required.

The Heights explores the history of the War of 1812 on the grounds of Dundurn National Historic Site. Burlington Heights, where the Castle now stands, was occupied by the British military from 1813 until 1815. The guided journey includes stops at The Hamilton Military Museum and the rarely-seen Cock Pit building, explores evidence of military fortifications in Dundurn Park and concludes with a look inside Dundurn Castle focusing on the 1812 architectural features that Sir Allan MacNab later incorporated into his well-known home. The price per person is $20 and pre-registration is required.

Participants of each program will receive a family admission pass for a return visit valued at $30.
