Dundurn National Historic Site

Canada Day Military Tattoo
Enjoy a spectacular military musical celebration and experience a tradition that celebrates 25 years in Dundurn Park! Feel the thrill as the Regimental Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Band and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Pipes and Drums perform in front of Dundurn Castle. Catch a glimpse of the red coated defenders of Canada West at Ridgeway during the Fenian Raid of 1866, as the 13th Battalion Ceremonial Guard takes to the field.

Historic Garden Tours
Enjoy informative stories and historic gardening knowledge conveyed by costumed garden staff. The tour promises to be a pleasure for the mind and the senses. Dundurn's historic Kitchen Garden catered to the nutritional needs and aesthetic desires of the MacNab family 150 years ago.
Date: Saturdays and Sundays in July
Time: 12:30 to 1:30 pm and 2 to 3 pm

Family Friendly Workshop: How Does Your Garden Grow
Join our costumed interpreters for a hands-on workshop packed with kid-friendly fun. Your visit includes: a fun tour of the incredible two-acre historic kitchen garden, planting historic seeds to take home and grow, a scavenger hunt, and preparing a historic recipe in the kitchen. End your visit with an outdoor tasting of your delicious treats!

Dundurn at Dusk
Led by costumed gardeners, experience the sights and scents of flowering plants best enjoyed as the sun sets. After the tour guests will enjoy the view of the Bay in the rarely opened Cockpit building while sampling produce from the garden and seasonal recipes from the Historic Kitchen. Everyone will be invited to take a piece of the garden home with them after hand-crafting a floral bouquet or herb bundle.

Music at Fieldcote
Enjoy a memorable performance every Sunday evening during the months of July and August. A variety of talented musicians will be performing at the band shell on the grounds of Fieldcote Museum. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and find a spot to be entertained.

Windowsill Gardening Wednesday – Plant Types
Each week, you will learn everything you need to know about feeding your plants water, soil, and sunshine, and get to know the pollinators and pests that may help or hinder your garden’s growth. Think you need a big backyard to have a garden, or huge fields to be a farmer? Think again! You can grow fruits and vegetables in pots on your balcony, driveway, or even inside your house on your windowsill.

Windowsill Gardening Wednesday – Plant Parts and Needs

Special guest Julia Hitchcock, an organic urban farmer, will be at the museum from 10 am to 12 noon to demonstrate gardening using a variety of plants. Test Tube Tuesday – Animal Science

Find out for yourself how scientists use experiments and logic to unlock the mysteries of the universe - from the human body to the solar system. Each Tuesday will include several activities to help you explore and discover the world around you. Space is limited; seating is available on a first come first serve basis.
