We’ll be kicking off the event with a cycling expo enabling people to connect with cycling and environmental organizations that are making a big difference in our city every day.
We’re going to delve into the much talked about world of city building and the transformative culture of cycling. Bruntlett, is an author and co-founder of Modacity, who will take us on a journey through five Dutch cities and how they built a culture of cycling and urban vitality.
The Dutch Model of Urban Vitality
As the world’s foremost cycling nation, the Netherlands is the only country, in the world, where the number of bikes exceeds the number of people. This is primarily because the Dutch have built a cycling culture accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability or economic means. There, City officials are rediscovering cycling as wide-ranging solution to the acute, 21st-century problems that include lack of affordability, obesity, congestion, climate change, inequity and social isolation.
