Background
The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell is the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, serving since 2014. In March 2016, Her Honour conducted an official visit to Hamilton, during which she joined city staff and young leaders during a roundtable focusing on local sustainability initiatives and youth engagement. The City of Hamilton was thrilled to highlight some of the work being done in our community to protect the environment, promote inclusive prosperity and social cohesion, and respond to the threat of climate change, while encouraging future leaders to lend their voice.
Her Honour will continue the practice of bringing the Lieutenant Governor’s New Year’s Levee to communities across Ontario. This is the first time the levee will take place in Hamilton, a growing city whose rich history and culture complement its dedication to sustainable development. Most recently the Lieutenant Governor was in Hamilton to take part in The Queen’s Baton Relay in advance of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Hamilton has connections to several Lieutenant Governors, including the Honourable Lincoln Alexander, who served as the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario (1985-1991).
