Mountain Townhome Damaged in Evening Fire
HAMILTON, ON – June 5, 2016 – Fire crews responded at 10:30 pm last evening to a multi-unit, residential attached townhouse located at 110 Essling Ave. for a reported fire in Unit 36. Upon arrival, firefighters found the unit to be well involved with fire venting from the first and second floor windows. The fire was also extending into the attic of the adjacent Unit 37; a multiple alarm was then initiated to bring additional fire crews to the scene to assist in suppression.
Firefighters immediately began search and rescue operations and confirmed that the occupants were not home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters worked quickly and were able to effect a successful knockdown and extinguishment of the fire on all floor levels of Unit 36 and the attic space of the adjacent Unit 37.
Damage to Unit 36 is extensive and estimated at $400,000 in total. There were no injuries to the public and three firefighters received injuries. Two of the firefighters were transported to hospital where they were treated and released.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and is not considered suspicious.
The Red Cross was also called to the scene to assist tenants with alternate accommodation.
