Notice of PIC 2 for Greensville Municipal Backup Well
The City of Hamilton completed the Mid-Spencer Creek and Greensville Rural Settlement Area (RSA) Subwatershed Study in 2016 which fulfilled Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process http://www.hamilton.ca/ Greensville Study.
One of the recommendations of the Subwatershed Study was the creation of a backup system for the Greensville Municipal Well http://www.hamilton.ca/greensvillebackupwell. This alternative was selected based on the impact to the environment, capacity of groundwater resources, consistency with existing policy and the objective to provide a better level service to the 36 homes currently serviced by the municipal well.
The Process
The current Study is being undertaken to satisfy Phases 3 and 4 of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process in order to present and evaluate the impacts of alternative design concepts of the backup well; select preferred design concept; and document the evaluation of alternatives and the consultation related to the project in an Environmental Study Report (ESR).
Source Protection
The Halton-Hamilton Source Protection Committee has made great progress in the protection of your drinking water sources. In December 2015, the Source Protection Plan took effect. The policies in this Plan are designed to protect the quality and quantity of the groundwater that supplies the Greensville municipal drinking water system. The Plan sets out actions to eliminate, manage or reduce potential risks to drinking water sources. Studies in the Greensville area were recently completed to assess the proposed new municipal well and re-evaluate the existing well for potential risks to both quality and quantity using a new modelling process. The Plan and associated documents have been updated to include the findings of the studies. The Committee is seeking your feedback on the amendments to the documents and asks that you review them on our website at www.protectingwater.ca or during working hours at 4052 Milburough Line, Campbellville. Please provide your feedback by December 4, 2017.
How to Participate
Public Information Centre #2 will be held to present the results of the assessment of alternative design concepts for the proposed backup well and to receive feedback on the preferred design concept.
Date: Thursday, November 16, 2017
Time: 4 pm to 8 pm
Location: Christ Church, 92 Highway #8, Flamborough
Upon completion of the second Public Information Centre, and once all comments from the agencies and public are addressed, the preferred design concept will be confirmed. The preferred design concept will be documented in an Environmental Study Report which will be made available for public review and comment. Another advertisement will be published at that time, indicating where and how the public can access the report.
Public Comments Invited
We are interested in hearing any comments or concerns you may have with respect to this study. Comments received through the course of the study will be considered in selecting the preferred design concept. Information will be collected in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. With the exception of personal information, all comments will become part of the public record.
