The Process

The Study will follow the planning and design process as defined in the MEA Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document(October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 & 2015) and be undertaken as a Schedule ‘C’ project to satisfy Phases 3 and 4 of the Class EA process.

This study includes public and review agency consultation, presentation and evaluation of alternative design concepts of the backup well, selection of a preferred design concept, and documentation of the evaluation of alternatives. Upon completion of the Study, an Environmental Study Report documenting the planning and decision making process will be prepared and made available for public review.

Source Protection

The Halton-Hamilton Source Protection Committee has made great progress in the protection of your drinking water sources. In December 2015, the Source Protection Plan took effect. The policies in this Plan are designed to protect the quality and quantity of the groundwater that supplies the Greensville municipal drinking water system. The Plan sets out actions to eliminate, manage or reduce potential risks to drinking water sources. Studies in the Greensville area were recently completed to assess the proposed new municipal well and re-evaluate the existing well for potential risks to both quality and quantity using a new modelling process. The studies have produced mapping of protection areas around the municipal wells and we are assessing the activities that could impact the quality or sustainability of the drinking water source. The Committee is seeking your feedback on the study results and asks that you review the consultant’s two documents available on our website at www.protectingwater.ca.
