Official re-opening celebration at the Ancaster Aquatic Centre
HAMILTON, ON - October 14, 2017 - The City of Hamilton celebrated the re-opening of the Ancaster Aquatic Centre today with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. City of Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger welcomed MP Filomena Tassi, MPP Ted McMeekin, and Ward 12 Councillor Lloyd Ferguson to mark the occasion.
The Ancaster Aquatic Centre closed in January 2017 for renovations funded by grants from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, and an Ontario150 Community Capital Program grant, which is administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario.

- The Ontario150 Community Capital Program contributed $500,000 in funding towards this project. Administered by OTF, an agency of the Government of Ontario, Ontario150 Community Capital Program grants are helping nonprofit organizations, municipalities and Indigenous communities renovate, repair and retrofit existing community and cultural infrastructure.
- The total contract amount for the Ancaster Aquatic Centre totalled $1,375,000
- The total area of renovations to the Ancaster Aquatic Centre was 3,500 sq.ft.
- The renovations included:
- Addition of accessible female, male and universal change rooms and washrooms;
- Energy-efficient LED lighting upgrades;
- Building systems upgrades, including fire alarm, plumbing and HVAC;
- Refurbished existing elevator;
- New community room in front hallway;
- New reception desk, staff workstations and staff lunch room;
- New ventilation systems for change areas and warm pool;
- New sound system for large pool.
