Park illegally & get ticketed - Waterfall area parking enforcement begins this weekend
HAMILTON, ON - May 11, 2017 - As the warmer spring weather approaches and brings more visitors to the city’s beautiful waterfalls, the City of Hamilton is reminding the public to enjoy these areas responsibly and to park in designated areas or use the shuttle service that will begin operating this weekend.
Shuttle bus service
Parking for the Spencer Gorge/Webster Falls area is at Mizener’s Antiques and Fleamarket, located at 367 Highway 5 West in Dundas. A shuttle bus will pick up visitors and stop at Greensville Optimist Park (access to Webster Falls) and Tew Falls (access to Dundas Peak).
The cost for the shuttle will remain the same as the regular parking and entry fees to Spencer Gorge/Webster Falls:
- $10 per car for parking
- $5 per person admission
HCA passholders receive two walk-in admissions per pass, but the $10 parking fee will still apply. A wristband policy will be in effect for all visitors to the conservation area.
The shuttle service was set up by a local Greensville organization, in arrangement with the Hamilton Conservation Authority, to address traffic and parking during high peak visitation and neighbourhood congestion and safety issues caused by cars parking along the roads.
Parking enforcement & respecting private property
Cars that are illegally parked will be ticketed as part of an ongoing proactive parking enforcement program that will run every weekend throughout the summer until October in neighbourhoods adjacent to all popular waterfall areas in Hamilton.
In addition to respecting neighbouring land owners and staying off private property, the public are also reminded to enjoy the waterfalls safely and to respect the environment. Stay on marked designated trails and obey closure signs. There are many rare and sensitive plants that can be easily damaged or destroyed.
