Phase One of the Wilson St E reconstruction project beginning next week
HAMILTON, ON – On Monday, May 9, the City of Hamilton will reduce Wilson St E in Ancaster between Filman Rd and Lower Lions Club Rd to one lane in order to begin Phase One of the Wilson Street E reconstruction project.
The project will be completed in four phases, with the entire project wrapping up by mid-September.
Between May and September, temporary lane restrictions will be in place along sections of Wilson Street E while the City completes the following upgrades:
- Road resurfacing
- Culvert replacement
- Bike lane improvements between Filman Rd and Rousseaux St
- The installation of a pedestrian crossover (PXO) at Tiffany Falls Conservation Area
During this time, both upbound and downbound traffic movement will be maintained throughout construction and temporary traffic signals will be used to assist motorists and cyclists through the construction zone. Motorists can expect delays and are advised to take an alternate route.
Cyclists travelling in the upbound and downbound direction can consider using the free HSR Mountain Climber program with designated transit stops located at the corner of Rousseaux St and Wilson St E as well as at 2000 Main St W and 1983 Main St W.
Passengers on HSR Routes #5A and #5C Delaware may experience delays.
Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the duration of the construction.
Dates for the work are weather permitting, however at this time, details, phases and project updates can be found at www.hamilton.ca/wilsonimprovements
The project incorporates the principles of Vision Zero in the design in order to focus on the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and cyclists. Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities standards have also been incorporated such as increased pedestrian and vehicle movement clarity, predictability, and visibility as well as simplified road crossing tasks and the provision of accessible pedestrian signals.
The City of Hamilton thanks motorists, pedestrians and cyclists for their patience as we complete these important infrastructure improvements.
