Residents come together to celebrate Hamilton’s diversity at 2nd annual Newcomer Day
HAMILTON, ON – Today, the City of Hamilton welcomed hundreds of participants at the 2nd annual Hamilton Newcomer Day at Hamilton City Hall. The event celebrated the richly diverse and inclusive Hamilton that we are today while providing the opportunity to learn about the resources and services available to help newcomers make Hamilton their home.
Hosted by the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council, and sponsored by RBC, this year featured the “Communi-Tea” outdoor space, encouraging guests to sample different teas, engage in lively conversation as they the explore other cultures that make up our city. Guests also enjoyed stage entertainment showcasing local newcomer talent, a marketplace with hand-crafted and imported products, family-friendly activities and games, a diverse mix of food options, and an information fair featuring various services and programs of interest to newcomers.
During the event, 35 new citizens from 19 countries around the world were welcomed at a special citizenship ceremony in Council Chambers attended by Hamilton’s Mayor Fred Eisenberger, in partnership with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
