Several homes heavily damaged in afternoon fire
HAMILTON, ON – December 8, 2017 – The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 20 Nesbit Blvd, Flamborough at 1:13 pm this afternoon. First arriving crew reported a well involved fire in the three storey unit that was extending into the units to the east.
The alarm was upgraded to a multiple alarm which saw the dispatching of additional units and resources to the scene. This is a town house complex in a block of 12 units that have 6 units back to back with all units being addressed on Nesbit Blvd. The fire had extended from unit 20 to units 18 and 16. All three units have suffered extensive fire damage. Although the fire did not extend to Units 14 and 22, these units have experienced smoke and water damage. Additionally the units immediately joined at the back of the fire units (Units 54-14, 54-15, 54-16 and 54-17) have all suffered smoke and water damage, these units were spared more significant damage due to the rapid and aggressive work of fire crews who were able to get into the attic space and stop the advancing fire.
The fire has now been declared under control. Crews are working on putting out hot spots and beginning overhaul. One resident is being attended to Hamilton Paramedics for minor smoke inhalation. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
It is too early in the incident to have an origin or cause. Given the significant dollar loss, the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
