Statement by Mayor Fred Eisenberger Congratulating Mayor-Elect Andrea Horwath and the Incoming Council
My warmest congratulations to Mayor-Elect Andrea Horwath on being selected by the people of Hamilton to lead the City and Council.
This is a historic win for Andrea, becoming Hamilton’s very first female Mayor since our founding in 1846. Andrea will be guided by new ideas, a wealth of experience in how government works at all levels, and a track record of advocating and delivering for Hamiltonians.
Thanks to all the mayoral and council candidates who put their names and ideas forward, and our gratitude to the volunteer teams behind them. It may not be the result you had hoped for, but know that your efforts greatly contributed to strengthening our democracy and fostering interest and engagement in municipal government. Your work has lasting positive impacts.
Many thanks to the incredible City Elections staff and volunteers. You reached out to residents in new ways, engaged youth and new voters to increase turnout, and took great care to make sure everyone’s voice was heard and every vote was counted. Your dedicated efforts resulted in significantly more Hamiltonians turning out to advance polls.
Also, congratulations to all the new and returning City Councillors and Trustees. I look forward to seeing the next Council continue to make progress to make the City of Hamilton the best place to raise a child and age successfully.
Over the next couple of weeks, my office will do everything possible to work with the new Mayor’s team to ensure a seamless transition.
